A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BOMBERS:

The Bradentucky Bombers is an All-Female, Full-Contact, Flat-Track Roller Derby League that was the Las Vegas "love-child" of founder Gigi RaMoan. Conceived in the bathroom of the Double Down Saloon as Gigi admired the "Sin-City Rollers" graffiti on the wall, the league was quite rightfully named "The Bradentucky Bombers" by her husband, Doug, mere minutes after its conception.

Then Gigi acquired a pair of 1960's black artistic skates from her friend City Councilman Pat Roff's deceased father. In this Cinderella-like story, the skates fit Gigi perfectly, of course, and she immediately painted flames on them and hit the pavement with flyers in hand, scouting around town for more like-minded skaters.

That was a few years ago — 2006, to be exact. Today, The Bradentucky Bombers are 30+ skaters strong, currently consisting of two teams: The Bomb Squad (our "A-team") and The Nuclear Bombshells.

Who We Are:

Embracing traditions from every Derby decade from the 1930s until now, we combine a dedication to the purity and competition of the sport with the spectacle of tongue-in-cheek skating personas and somewhat outrageous uniforms. Our Bradentucky Bomber logo represents those qualities we encourage in our skaters derived from those derby greats who came before us — female individuality, strength, toughness, and femininity.

We range in age from 18 to 40+. By day, we are working wives, mothers, students, teachers, motorcycle mechanics, administrative assistants, bartenders, web designers, artists, and everything inbetween. But a few nights a week, just like Cat Woman, our alter-egos emerge as we pull up our fishnet stockings, strap on our skates and transform ourselves into Bomber Girls, with names like Gigi RaMoan, Busty Bruiser, Mission Mary Position, Vixen Da CrusHer, Snow Wipe U Out, Mia Psycho, Julia Seize-Her, Edna VanDetta and Smashley Whiplash, to name just a few. Check out our terrific "The Team" page for the full roster of Bomber Girls, with pictures and bios, too!

Our Training:

Being a Bomber Girl requires our gals to rigorously train a minimum of 3 hours per week. Training includes mastery of basic and advanced skating skills as well as endurance training and conditioning. Our league coach, Vixen Da CrusHer, ensures that all skaters develop the strength, endurance and skill-set required to safely and effectively participate in the hard-hitting, fast-moving sport of Roller Derby.

Our Mission Statement:

To operate as a financially sustainable All-Female Flat Track Roller Derby League that sponsors sportswomanship and athleticism. We are run for the skaters, by the skaters. To promote the physical and mental strength and independant spirit of women to the community at large. To pursue membership in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). To represent Bradenton, Florida (and small towns across the nation) in local, regional and national competitions.

Our Charitable Efforts:

The Bradentucky Bombers Roller Derby League promotes a strong, positive, athletic female image and we believe deeply in our slogan "Strong Women Rolling for a Strong Community." Comprised of women from all walks of life, we are a charitable organization with our main focus being the empowerment of women and the protection of children. We strive to be a positive influence in the community and are actively involved in many charitable activities each year, including American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, The Arthritis Foundation, The Trinity Charities Aids Walk, The Food Bank of Manatee, Manatee County Foster Parent Association, Child Abuse Prevention Coalition/CAPCO, the Community Coalition on Homelessness and the Sarasota Family YMCA/Safe Children Coalition, too. We are committed to achieving financial stability, which allows us to "give back" by participating in, and hosting, charitable events. In fact, to maintain membership in our league, all members are required to volunteer in the community for a number of hours each season!

Special Note:

The Bradentucky Bombers comply with all standards established by the WFTDA. WFTDA, the Womens Flat-Track Derby Association, is our national governing body composed of independent, all-girl Roller Derby leagues from across the country. The mission of the WFTDA is to promote and foster the sport of women’s flat-track Roller Derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues. For more information, visit the WFTDA website.
